Evanov Radio Group is pleased to commemorate the fifty-year milestone of its founder and President, Bill Evanov. In January 2017, Mr. Evanov will celebrate half a century in the broadcast industry.
Under his leadership, Evanov Radio Group has become one of the most successful independent broadcasting companies in Canada. From one small station to 19 stations and counting, ERG has thrived in markets such as Winnipeg, Halifax, Ottawa, Montreal, and the Greater Toronto Area with a host of firsts to Evanov’s credit.
Unique to ERG are radio formats such as the ERG CHR/Dance genre and The Jewel’s Light and Refreshing format blending the greatest hits from a variety of eras. Evanov launched the first dance music station in the country when Energy 108 (CING FM), signed on in 1990. Evanov also launched Canada’s first station targeting the LGBT community, PROUD FM. Also offered, Hot Country radio, and several multilingual stations. ERG takes great pride in supporting and promoting diverse and multicultural communities across the country.
Bill Evanov has always promoted Canadian artists and music, believing they are part of the fabric of Canada’s landscape. ERG Stations are often the first to recognize and play fresh new Canadian talent. Mr. Evanov supports a wide range of charities and local community events in the areas served by ERG Radio Stations.
Bill Evanov began his career alongside Johnny Lombardi at CHIN Radio. Within 18 months, he was appointed Vice President, Sales. Bill became Chief Organizer of first-ever CHIN International Picnic, which he created to build on the original spaghetti eating contest hosted by the Station. The CHIN International Picnic continues to this day, and is known around the globe as the largest event of its kind as noted in the Guinness Book of World Records.
He is an entrepreneur and a pioneer. Bill’s extraordinary business sense and contagious enthusiasm for the radio industry have created Evanov Radio Group and made it such a tremendous success story. ERG is headquartered in Toronto and employs upwards of 250 people across the country.
January 2017 marks the 50th anniversary of Bill Evanov’s broadcasting career. A variety of events and celebrations will take place throughout the year to honor Bill’s extraordinary contribution to the broadcast industry.
